In the first road game of the 2017 season, the Bulldogs wore the shiny maroon helmets with white jerseys and white pants. The 57-21 win over Louisiana Tech was the second time the Bulldogs have worn this particular combination in the current set; they first wore the look in a close loss at LSU last season.
Maroon/White/White is the most classic Mississippi State road look, and the current incarnation is one of the best ever. The white jerseys and pants were both updated last season, and the matching maroon-gray-maroon stripes really look good. I do prefer a matte helmet, but the shiny maroon helmet also looks good with the white over white combo.
LA Tech went with white helmets, blue jerseys, and blue pants; normally I don't like the idea of monochrome royal blue, but LA Tech just has a really solid set with stripes similar to State's. The game had a nice symmetry with State wearing Color-White-White and Tech wearing White-Color-Color.
The jersey model for this game is #94 Jeffrey Simmons, a defensive lineman, who scored TWO touchdowns tonight; one after a punt that he blocked late in the first quarter, and another in the third quarter where he picked up a fumble and ran it 90 yards (!!!) for a TD. Simmons is quickly becoming the face of a formidable defense under Defensive Coordinator Todd Grantham.
