The Bulldogs wore the 5th of 17 combos in their mid week matchup with Alcorn State: the Maroon 80s tops with white pants.
The Bulldogs started off the second weekend of play by wearing the Maroon MS jerseys with white pants- the same combination they wore a week prior. On Saturday, the fourth of 17 combinations was announced: the White MS jersey. Saturday's second game was suspended in the 5th inning; it resumed on Sunday, with the Bulldogs wearing different uniforms.
Not wanting to change in-between games on Sunday but still wanting to bust out the Sunday creams, this was the solution. So, for the 1.5 games played on Sunday, the Bulldogs wore the cream uniforms, this time with the cream hat. This is technically an 18th combination- the 17 combinations graphic cleverly shows the cream uniforms being worn with a batting helmet instead of a hat, therefore not restricting the single combination to one hat. The Bulldogs started off the 2015 season by wearing the first 3 of their 17 combinations. Those being the Maroon MS Jersey with white pants, a wool throwback jersey with 3/4 sleeves (not illustrated in the graphic), and the Cream uniforms.
As you may have heard this week, Mississippi State and Adidas combined in an effort to, in celebrating of the Bulldogs' 125 baseball season, give the Bulldogs 17 different combinations for the 2015 season. Many responded by saying that 17 was too much. Look closely, however, and you will see that "combinations" is the key word here. The Bulldogs wore 11 jerseys alone in 2015, and 15 combinations in total (feel free to fact-check this by viewing them on this blog's archive). So, in fact, the Bulldogs will only wear 2 more combinations in the 2015 season. (Three counting the Cream Hat as a separate combination.)
The initial image release has some clues as to what the 17 combinations will be. See a brightened version below. The Bulldogs hosted their "Fan Day" today, where fans (specifically, kids), could meet the players and coaches and have items signed. During "Fan Day", the players were wearing the 2015 version of the Maroon 80's style jersey. The 2015 version has two minor differences from the version used up until last season. First, thin white piping has been added. I like this change, it adds more light to an otherwise dark uniform; it is a change I suggested in my concept this winter. Also, a state of Mississippi outline has replaced the bulldog logo on the right sleeve.
The 2015 season is almost upon us. The Bulldogs begin play on February 15, and Collegiate Baseball has given the them a preseason ranking of 20. The Bulldogs will have an improved offense, something that cost them late in the season last year. The pitching is less certain, but Butch Thompson, considered by many to be the best pitching coach in the nation, will find a way to make a productive staff.
The big question about the 2015 season is uniforms. What will Adidas roll out this year? Early photoshoots indicate that the regular uniforms will return; hopefully some of the Adidas catastrophes are gone for good. I'd also rather have the black uniforms not return. But, certainty expect some new Adidas expriments around SEC tournament time. I'm fine with alternates in the tournament. It's the regionals, super regionals, and college world series where they should not be worn. This year, the uni tracker will have a modified form of presentation. The full body templates have been replaced by a flat, 2D template that shows more detail on the uniforms. Here is a preview of all of the uniforms worn in 2014 on the new template: Mississippi State has the potential for a great baseball uniform set. They look good as it is, but a few simple tweaks and they could have a classic, untouchable look. Here, I've introduced a new, consistent number font. That same font has been applied to the "Mississippi State" wordmark and has been used to create a new "Bulldogs" wordmark. A Mississippi patch has been added to the sleeve of each jersey. The white and maroon jerseys remain with the modified wordmark and number font. The pinstripe and maroon MS jerseys also remain, with the only change being the updated number font. The "Bulldogs" wordmark is applied to the cream jersey and to a new gray away jersey. These changes, I believe, would unify Mississippi State's baseball brand. Adidas would be allowed to introduce two crazy alternates a year, for use in the SEC tournament only. For more SEC Baseball concepts, click here: 2015 SEC Baseball Concepts
