An update in 1989 removed the shoulder stripes, helmet stripes, and all silver from the uniforms, resulting in a plain look very similar to the 1979-1983 look, as well at what would be worn from 2004-2008 (white helmets and maroon pants aside).

1988

In the third and final year of the stripe-heavy, gray-heavy set, the Bulldogs posted an abysmal 1-10 record. After this season, gray pants would not be worn again until 2012; gray pants with maroon-white-maroon stripes would not be worn again until 2015.

Like in 1987, I have been told that white pants were worn against USM, Auburn, and Florida in 1988.

1987

I have been told that white pants were re-introduced and worn in some games in 1987. In old photos, it is hard to tell the difference between silver and white pants. Personally, I was not alive in 1987, so I am going off of accounts from people who were; they have said that white pants were worn against USM, LSU, and Ole Miss in 1987.

1986

The 86 uniforms added an updated interlocking “MSU” logo to the helmets and introduced silver/gray to the color scheme.  Stripes were added on the helmets and jersey sleeve, and silver pants with maroon-white-maroon stripes were worn exclusively.

1985

In the second and final year of the shoulder stripe uniforms, the two combinations from 1984 were worn again, along with a third combination, all maroon, which was worn in four mid-season home games.

It was the first time all maroon had been worn since the early 1950s; all maroon would not be worn again until 1995. Maroon Pants would not be worn again until the Peach Bowl following the 1992 season.

In 1984, the Bulldogs removed the stripes on the pants but added stripes on the shoulders, similar to those Texas A&M wore under Coach Emory Bellard.  Maroon pants, being worn for the first time since 1953, were worn exclusively on the road.

1981 was the third season of the 1979 uniform set; Maroon over White was worn in the 1981 Hall of Fame Classic victory over Kansas.

1980

1980 was the second season for the uniform set featuring a maroon helmet with an interlocking "MSU", plain maroon and white jerseys, and white pants with double maroon stripes. Maroon over White was worn in the historical 6-3 win over Alabama; all White was worn in the 1980 Sun Bowl vs Nebraska.
