When Mississippi State made the College World Series in 2013, I created a set of roundel logos for the eight participating teams. The basic idea was to create a consistent icon for each team for use in graphics- I liked the idea so much that I continued to do it in the following years, making minor changes to the fonts and details to create a unique look for each season, but keeping them similar enough to maintain consistency. 2023 was the 10th year that I've done the roundels; I've gotten to include a Mississippi State roundel four times, including three in a row from 2018 to 2021!
2024
The 2024 roundel collection included thick inner and outer outlines as well as, for the first time ever, full color College World Series and conference logos. This was especially well highlighted by the 50/50 split of SEC and ACC participants in the 2024 CWS. Participants: Tennessee, Kentucky, Texas A&M, Florida, North Carolina, Florida State, NC State, Virginia Behance Link: 2024 CWS Roundels |
2023
The 2023 roundel collection included triple-outlined roundels for the first time ever, alongside wide, block lettering and and inner outline to match the contrast stitching for the first time since 2019. Participants: Wake Forest, LSU, Florida, Oral Roberts, Stanford, Tennessee, Virginia, TCU Behance Link: 2023 CWS Roundels |
2022
The 2022 collection features a return to an outlined roundel, with a double outline of varying styles bases on what worked best with each school's color scheme. For the first time, all 8 roundels feature white text. Participants: Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Stanford, Ole Miss, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Auburn Behance Link: 2022 CWS Roundels |
2021
The 2021 roundels saw a more simplified look inspired by the original 2013 and 2014 collections, with no outlines on the roundels and utilizing a modern, sans-serif font. These logos will always be special, as they were used in my graphics throughout Mississippi State's run to its first ever National Championship. Participants: NC State, Vanderbilt, Texas, Tennessee, Stanford, Arizona, Mississippi State, Virginia Behance Link: 2021 CWS Roundels |
2019
The 2019 roundel collection sees a return to a more classic block font and solid-color look. The background stitching is positioned differently than before, and the outline pattern is altered, with the inner outline returning for the first time since the original roundels in 2013. Participants: Michigan, Texas Tech, Vanderbilt, Louisville, Arkansas, Florida State, Mississippi State, Auburn Behance Link: 2019 CWS Roundels |
2018
The 2018 roundels featured a slight gradient and a font called "Tenby Five," creating a more modern look. Participants: Florida, Texas Tech, Washington, Mississippi State, Arkansas, Texas, Oregon State, North Carolina Behance Link: 2018 CWS Roundels |
2017
In 2017, I went with a simplified look; every logo was single color and featured no outlines. Each roundel featured a primary background team color with a secondary outline team color. The lace design inside the roundel was altered to create a cleaner design. Participants: Oregon State, Cal State Fullerton, Texas A&M, Louisville, Florida State, LSU, TCU, Florida Behance Link: 2017 CWS Roundels |
2016
The College World Series logo officially changed in 2016 to design featuring three primary colors: blue, green, and sand. Those three colors were used on the outline of every roundel that year. Participants: Florida, Texas Tech, UC Santa Barbara, Arizona, Coastal Carolina, TCU, Oklahoma State, Miami Behance Link: 2016 CWS Roundels |
2015
In 2015, getting tired of the then-current logo, I created a concept CWS logo that I used for all of the roundels. The logo I created heavily featured cream, so instead of white, cream was used as the background color for all of the roundels. In addition, the roundels were given an outline for the first time in 2015. Participants: Virginia, LSU, Cal State Fullerton, Florida, Miami, Vanderbilt, TCU, Arkansas Behance Link: 2015 CWS Roundels |
2014
In 2014, the lace design was changed to a 2d design, making the roundel more "flat." The inner outline was removed, and the font was also altered. Participants: Louisville, UC Irvine, Texas, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, Texas Tech, TCU, Virginia Behance Link: 2014 CWS Roundels |
2013
The first set of roundels featured the team logo on top of 3d laces, surrounded by the team's colors. They set the precedent of team name on top, "year College World Series" on bottom, CWS logo on left side, and conference logo on right side. Participants: North Carolina, NC State, Louisville, Indiana, UCLA, LSU, Oregon State, Mississippi State Behance Link: 2013 CWS Roundels |
