On Monday, Adidas announced their yearly "March Madness" uniform lineup, as they do every year. This year's designs are more restrained than previous years, though some quirks still remain. For Mississippi State, the designs for the Men and Women are nearly identical, with a slightly different cut and a gray waistband for the men being the main difference.

The women wore the white versions of these uniforms last Friday and Saturday in the SEC tournament, so we've actually already seen the design in action. It's likely that the women will keep wearing these white uniforms for the first few rounds of the NCAA tournament. There is a good chance that the maroon uniforms pictured above never actually see the court, but I hope that they do; it would mean a very deep run in the tournament for the Women to be the lower seeded team in a game.

The main differences between the regular season and postseason uniforms for the Women are the thicker stripe on the shorts, the addition of silver to the collar, and the use of the Bulldog logo on the shorts instead of the M-State logo. One of the more interesting inclusions in the "March Madness" uniform design is a subliminal cowbell pattern in the stripes on the bottom of the back of the shorts.

The men are not likely to play in any postseason tournament other than the SEC Tournament, but there's a good chance that they'll get to wear both the maroon and white "March Madness" jerseys with they're there. In their first game in Nashville, the Bulldogs will be the higher seed (likely meaning white uniforms) against an LSU team that they've already beaten twice. If they are to win, they will be the lower seed (likely meaning maroon uniforms) against Alabama. Last year, both maroon and white "March Madness" uniforms were unveiled, but only the maroon versions were ever actually worn.

The difference from the regular uniforms are more obvious for the men. Gone are the ribbon stripes on the shorts; thick gray stripes on the waist and bottom of the shorts are added, with the cowbell pattern on the bottom stripe on the back. The removal of the ribbon stripes the shorts a huge downgrade in my opinion, but the cowbell pattern somewhat makes up for it. Gray-White-Gray stripes are added to the sleeve trim on the maroon jerseys, which is actually a great addition. So it's a mixed bag for the men. The regulars are better, but these certainly aren't bad for postseason alternates, especially by Adidas's standards.

Photoshoots today for Mississippi State's basketball team, which is entering year two under coach Ben Howland, revealed refreshed uniforms for the upcoming season. The Bulldogs got new uniforms for the SEC Tournament last year, and it was expected that those would be the uniforms going forward. At the very least, it was sure that the uniforms worn the previous two seasons would not be returning. That part turned out to be true; the Bulldogs will be debuting new uniforms, but they will not be the ones unveiled for the SEC Tournament last year.

The new jerseys are pretty similar to those worn in the SEC Tournament last year; the only difference being a slightly different design on the back of the collar. The big change comes to the shorts; the bottom of the shorts feature old school double stripes; the sides feature the same large double stripes, which form a ribbon at the bottom of the pants, a theme consistent with the Bulldogs' primary logo. The ribbon concept was infamously implemented on the football uniforms from 2012 to 2014. It has also been used on cream basketball uniforms for the past few seasons; the new shorts are definitely inspired by the popular cream uniforms (Which, as confirmed by sportslogos.net, will be returning for the 2016-17 season to be worn along with these new uniforms.) Other changes on the pants include the standing bulldog logo being added to the bottom left corner and the state of Mississippi outline being prominently added to the front belt.

There are white, maroon, and black versions of the new uniforms. UPDATE October 4th: Players wore a different white jerseys for a photoshoot yesterday.  It was very plain, with thinner neck and sleeve trim, no shorts stripes, and, very oddly, the Arizona State font for the player name instead of the Bulldogs' regular custom font.  We'll see what role, if anything more than a photoshoot, these jerseys play in the upcoming season.

In addition to new uniforms, a new court design for the 2016-17 Season was recently announced.  The new court features the M-State logo at mid-court (replacing the "Mississippi State" banner wordmark) as well as a listing of all 82 Mississippi counties.

Finally, the SEC schedule for 2017 has been released.  Basketball season is on the way, and if last Saturday is any indication, it may need to get here sooner rather than later.
