Following a 4-0 week that included a win over Memphis and a sweep over Ole Miss, it was a good time to be a Mississippi State baseball fan. The Bulldogs entered 4 of the 6 major polls, earning a ranking as high as #19 from Collegiate Baseball. In addition to the current successes, 6 former Bulldogs were on opening day rosters, with four drawing opening starts starts and all six seeing significant playing time during the first week of the 2017 MLB season.

Super Bulldog Weekend 2017 was preceded by a two-game midweek series vs FIU, in which the Bulldogs pitched nearly the entire staff, dropping the game in Tuesday in the White "State" Pinstripes for the first loss in those uniforms since 1974. Of course, they hadn't been worn since then until this season, in which they held a 5-0 record prior to the FIU loss. On Wednesday, the Bulldogs wore Maroon MS over white and picked up a series-splitting win thanks to a walk-off extra innings home run from Brent Rooker.
On Friday of Super Bulldog Weekend, the Bulldogs dropped game 1 to Kentucky while wearing the traditional Maroon MS over white Friday uniforms. On Saturday, the Bulldogs evened the series in the White "State" Pinstripes, with Rooker hitting THREE home runs, one of which was a grand slam, in front of 13,000+ fans for the Bulldogs' first win on SBW since 2014. On Sunday, the Bulldogs took the series with a 10-6 win in the inverted white 85s; the win gave the Bulldogs's their first SBW series win since 2013 over Auburn.
