Following a series win at South Carolina, the Bulldogs started off their week by traveling to Mobile, Alabama to take on South Alabama for the third time this season. Wearing the gray pinstripes, the Bulldogs played rather uninspired and fell to the Jaguars 5-2. Any game that your closer gets a hit in is fun though.
The weekend series against Alabama started on Thursday, when the Bulldogs wore Maroon MS over white in their series opening win. Last season, Thursday night at home meant White MS jerseys, so I was a bit surprised not to see their replacements, the white "State" pinstripes, not being worn Thursday night.
Due to threat of inclimate weather on Saturday, the series concluded with a doubleheader on Friday night. It being Maroon Friday, the Bulldogs wore the Maroon MS jerseys in both games, with plain white pants in the first and with white pinstripe pants in the second. The first game was won to clinch the series; the second started just after 8 p.m. and ended just shy of 2 a.m. Saturday morning. With it's many twist and turns, last night/this morning's game was easily the craziest that I have ever watched at Dudy Noble Field. In the early hours of shortstop Ryan Gridley's sister's wedding day, the Bulldogs managed to pull off a 13-12 win in 13 innings to sweep the series and secure at least a tie for first place in the SEC with four weekends remaining.
Interesting note: with the win early Saturday morning, the Maroon MS over white pinstripes combo increased its winning percentage to .857 (6-1), matching the record of the white "State" pinstripes. Combined, the white pinstripe pants have a record of 12-2 in 2016. The plain white pants have a record of 14-5, while the gray pinstripe pants have a record of 2-7 (after going 8-3 last season).
