In what was quite possibility the most insane season in Mississippi State's baseball history, Andy Cannizaro "resigned" three games into the season, Gary Henderson became interm head coach, and the Bulldogs somehow parlayed a 2-7 start in SEC play into the program's 10th College World Series and a third place finish that is tied with 1985 for the Bulldogs' second best finish ever.
