On Saturday, Mississippi State traveled to Tuscaloosa to take on the #1 Crimson Tide. Not too surprisingly, Alabama jumped out to an early 14-0 lead and didn't look back. However, the stellar Mississippi State defense held the Crimson Tide to 24 points, their lowest total this season, and only 305 offensive yards, their first game under 500 yards this season. State did not score any points in a game for the first time since 2008, but that stat is cheapened when you consider the Kylin Hill touchdown run that was called back on what was, quite frankly, an awful "block in the back" call.
Mississippi State wore its all-white combination for the second time this season; it marked the third time this season that the white helmets had seen the field, after being worn with the all-white combination in the win at Kansas State and the white-maroon-white combination in the loss at LSU. This broke the record for the most times the current white helmets have been worn in a single season; they were worn twice in 2015, 16, and 17. This weekend's loss dropped the current white helmets' record to 4-5 (4-3 in all-white), and the all-time alternate white helmets record to 6-12.
I'm always a fan of the all-white look. Like I said after it was worn in the Kansas State game earlier this season, I think this is the best the all-white has ever looked for Mississippi State. Though I have to say, I was a bit surprised to see it in this game; I figured State would go matte-white-white at Alabama and save all-white for the Egg Bowl. Now, it will be interesting to see if they go with something like matte-white-white in that game in Oxford, or if all-white gets a third appearance this season.
This weekend's game was the first time an alternate white helmet had been worn in the Mississippi State vs Alabama matchup since Alabama wore them in 1983 and 1984. Of course, State's primary helmets were white from 2004 to 2008, and State's last two wins over Alabama (06,07) actually did come in white helmets. Unfortunately, that particular stat did not repeat itself in Tuscaloosa this year.

The uniform model for the Alabama game is LB #6 Willie Gay Jr., who sacked Heisman frontrunner Tua Tagovailoa twice and intercepted him once (only Tua's second interception thrown this season). Despite the loss, Gay and the rest of the Bulldog defense really played well against the high-powered Alabama offense.
Next week, Mississippi State hosts Arkansas for Senior Day and Military Appreciation Day. The Bulldogs will be wearing special all-gray alternate uniforms to honor G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery. Based on what I've seen so far, I expect these to be some of, if not the, best alternate uniforms Mississippi State has ever worn. Really looking forward to seeing them in action. Hail State.
