Mississippi State's 2019 football season finally came to an end on Monday, with the Bulldogs dropping yet another game they were favorited in under Joe Moorhead. The 38-28 loss to Louisville, in a game where State jumped out to a 14-0 lead, dropped the Bulldogs to 6-7 on the season. The loss made 2019 State's first losing season since 2016 and second since 2009; interestingly, all three seasons have included an Egg Bowl victory. So no total disasters.
Mississippi State went with their All-White look in the 2019 Music City Bowl; it was the fourth time all season that the all-white look had been worn this season, while neither Maroon-White-White nor White-White-Gray were worn once.

Despite it arguably being over-worn this season, All-White is a really good look for Mississippi State; the primarily green Music City Bowl patch looked really good on the white jerseys, and overall it was a solid bowl look for State. Louisville went with black helmets, red jerseys, and black pants, a combination they haven't worn since at least 1984. (Louisville wore black helmets in 1983 and 1984, and didn't bring them back as an alternate look until 2014. You can find Louisville's uniform combinations from 2014 to present at ACC-Tracker). |
Though a step down from the fairly traditional uniform matchup when these two teams faced off in the 2017 TaxSlayer Bowl, overall the 2019 Music City Bowl still had a pretty solid uniform matchup.
In addition to being the fourth appearance of the All-White look in 2019, the Music City Bowl marked the seventh appearance of the white helmets in 2019. With matte maroon helmets only being worn five times and shiny maroon helmets being worn once, the 2019 season is the first since 2008 in which the white helmets could be considered the Bulldogs' primary helmet.
The 2019 Music City Bowl was only the third bowl (out of 23) in which State has worn white helmets. The first was the 2000 Independence Bowl, in which white helmets were re-introduced for the first time since 1972. The second was the 2007 Liberty Bowl; white helmets were the Bulldogs' only option that season.
As both of those games were wins, the Music City Bowl loss dropped the Bulldogs to 2-1 (.667) in white helmets in bowl games; State is now 13-10 (.565) overall in bowl games and 3-8 (.273) in white jerseys. The Bulldogs have now lost two bowl games in the same calendar year for the first time ever and are on a four game losing streak in white jerseys in bowl games; the last time the Bulldogs won a bowl game in white was actually the 2011 Music City Bowl.

The loss dropped Mississippi State’s 2019 record in All-White to 2-2 (.500); the Bulldogs finished the season 4-3 (.571) in white helmets. State is now 9-8 (.529) in the current white helmets and 11-15 (.423) all-time in white helmets when they aren’t the only option.
