As the 2019 college baseball season starts to heat up, Mississippi State played and won five games to improve its record to 15-1. They began the week with a top-15 win over ECU, and then closed out the midweek with a clobbering of Arkansas Pine Bluff. They finished the week by sweeping the Maine Black Bears with two wins in a Friday doubleheader and a third win on Sunday.
The Bulldogs wore the white "State" pinstripes in their Tuesday game with top-15 East Carolina. The 4-1 win over the Pirates boosted State's already impressive resume (ECU would play and beat Ole Miss in Oxford on Wednesday) and improved the white pinstripes' record to 3-0.
On Wednesday against Arkansas Pine Bluff, Mississippi State wore teal jerseys to honor Alex Wilcox, a Mississippi State softball player who was diagnosed with and later passed away from ovarian cancer. The Mississippi State softball team had worn white jerseys with teal accents in midweek games in 2018, and is wearing teal jerseys in every 2019 midweek game. The jerseys worn by the baseball team featured the same design as the softball team's 2019 teal jerseys, featuring "Mississippi State" in block lettering on the front, white shoulders, teal numbers with white outlines, and Alex's signature on the left sleeve.
The teal jerseys were one of the coolest one-off tribute uniforms Mississippi State has ever done; the only thing that comes close is the "Boston Strong" hats worn against Auburn in 2013. The sentiment of the teal jerseys was unbelievable and the aesthetics weren't actually that bad; the bright teal looked cool in the afternoon sun, and school colors were still visible via the maroon hats and maroon piping on the white pants. I honestly don't mind the color combination of teal and maroon; some random franchise or school somewhere should test that out.
The teal jerseys are being auctioned off with proceeds going towards the Alex Wilcox Excellence Fund. Bidding started at $100 and will run through March 22. This is just a really cool deal all around; I would encourage you to donate towards the fund via the auction or otherwise if you have the means to do so.

NeOn Friday, Mississippi State took on the Maine Black Bears in a doubleheader, seeking revenge for the infamous 2004 football loss. The Bulldogs wore the classic Maroon 85 over White look in both games of the doubleheader, while Maine countered with some nice navy pullovers that matched up nicely with State's Maroon 85 jerseys.
Friday was State's second doubleheader of the 2019 season (the first the Saturday DH against Youngstown State); both times, the Bulldogs have stuck with the same uniform combination in both games. This is a different philosophy from the past two seasons, in which State always changed their uniform combination in-between all doubleheader games. Looking back through the seasons that I've tracked baseball uniforms, Mississippi State did not switch uniforms in-between DH games in 2014, sometimes did in 2015, did not in 2016, did in 2017 and 2018, and now have not in 2019.
In the Sunday conclusion of the series, Mississippi State wore its all-black nickelblack look for the second time in 2019. I would be amiss if I didn't mention the irony of wearing all-black against the Maine Black Bears, but this really isn't the worst case of that with the all-black; at least black isn't Maine's primary color like Vanderbilt and Southern Miss. Maine wore navy jerseys again on Sunday (though different ones than on Friday), so there wasn't a lot of contrast in that matchup. I guess that's something to get used to on Sundays this season; I'll be interested to see if the all-black sticks to Sundays only (as it has so far) or if it will be a game 3 jersey for Saturday or Sunday games once SEC play starts (as it was last season).

This upcoming week, Mississippi State takes on Grambling in a Wednesday game before traveling to Gainesville for a much anticipated SEC opening weekend series with Florida. It will be exciting to see Ethan Small and JT Ginn take the mound against the top 25 Gators and give the Bulldogs a chance to start SEC play off the right way.
