Mississippi State's fourth week of baseball in 2021 was a perfect one, with the Bulldogs claiming five victories in six days at Dudy Noble Field. Shoutout wins over Grambling, Louisiana, and Eastern Michigan on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday extended a scoreless streak for Mississippi State's opponent that ultimately lasted 39 innings, with 18 different pitchers contributing. The Bulldogs scored 41 runs over that span; by the end of the week, they had outscored opponents 49-2 over the course of six games.
This was the first week of 2021 in which the Bulldogs did not debut a new uniform combination; rather, each of the five jerseys that previously been worn saw the field again, each picking up an additional win on the season.
In the midweek games against Grambling and Lousiana, State wore the white pinstripes and white 85s respectively, improving each to 2-0 on the season. In the weekend series against Eastern Michigan, the Bulldogs wore their standard home weekend rotation of maroon 85 over white on Friday, cream on Saturday, and all-black on Sunday. With Friday's victory, the maroon 85 jerseys improved to 3-1 on the season and 2-1 when paired with white pants. Saturday's walk-off victory was the third such victory of the season and second in the cream uniforms, which improved to 2-2 on the season with the win. The sweep-clinching Sunday victory improved the Bulldogs' 2021 record in all-black to 4-0, proving that the "we don't lose in the Sunday blacks" mantra is as alive and true as ever.
Next weekend, the Bulldogs start off SEC play at LSU. This should mean the return of the maroon 85 over gray combination on Friday and the season debut of the gray script "State" jerseys on Saturday. The gray script jerseys were new last season and were only able to be worn once with the shortened season, so I'm very excited to see them back in action for only the second time ever.
