After starting the 2021 season in Texas, Mississippi State returned home for 4 games this week, winning the home opener against Jackson State and then taking two of three from Tulane over the weekend. Both wins over Tulane were in walk-off fashion, with Saturday's game ending on a grand slam by Luke Hancock and Sunday's game ending with a 2-RBI hit by Tanner Allen.
In Wednesday's home opener against Jackson State, the Bulldogs debuted their second brand new uniform of 2021, the white M over S pinstripes. Very similar to the design worn in 2013 and 2014, the new pinstripe uniforms were universally praised by fans. Many had been asking for the 2013 design, which was popularized by that season's College World Series run, to return, and Wednesday's game made that a reality.
The only differences from the 2013 uniforms are: set-in pinstripe layout rather than raglan, a maroon state of MS on the back rather than silver, the custom Mississippi State number font rather than a standard block one, and no outline on the M over S logo, as opposed to a white one. The lack of a white outline on the M over S logo is a callback to the design worn from 1998-2001. It's also reminiscent of the Yankees' classic pinstripe look, which is also the inspiration both the 2013 and 2021 looks' lack of a front number.
Compared the the white pinstripes worn last season, the changes are more significant. Most notably, of course, the M over S logo replaces the script "State" on the front. With it being on the front, the M over S logo is no longer necessary on the right sleeve, leaving it empty (but a prime spot for, say, a College World Series patch). Additionally, the state of MS on the back has reverted to its previous, smaller size, and the numbers have be changed from a condensed version of State's custom font to the full version of it. A white outline has been added to the back numbers; this is something that they share with the 2013 uniforms- it helps the numbers stand out and not blend in with the pinstripes.
The return to the M over S logo on the white pinstripes continues the trend of flip-flopping between the two. The "State" script first appeared on the white pinstripes from 1996 to 1974; they re-appeared with M over S logo from 1998 to 2001. In 2008, pinstripes with a Florida Marlins style "Bulldogs" script were worn; the M over S once again appeared on the white pins from 2013 to 2015. The script "State" logo returned in 2017 and was worn on the white pins until 2020; it was placed on the road gray jerseys in 2020 and on the new cream jerseys in 2021 in preparation of its removal from the white pins.
Personally, I'm really glad to see the M over S return to the white pinstripes. The 2013 look is iconic and I'm so happy for our fans that it's made its return. While I do think that the M over S creates a cleaner look on the white pinstripes, I'm glad to see that the script "State" will remain a part of the Bulldogs' uniform lineup- it looks great on both the gray and cream uniforms.

In the weekend series against Tulane, the Bulldogs got to wear their standard 2021 home weekend uniform rotation for the first time. The classic maroon 85 over white combination made its season debut on Friday, with no changes from 2020. With the iconic maroon 85 tops and double maroon stripes on the white pants, this look is one of the best in the country- hopefully it'll get back on the winning track next weekend.
On Saturday, the cream script "State" uniforms made their Dudy Noble Field debut, getting the win and improving to 1-1 on the season as the Bulldogs walked off the Green Wave on the back of a Luke Hancock grand slam. On Sunday, it was time for the Sunday Blacks, which lived up to their history as the Tanner Allen walked off Tulane to win the series. With Sunday's win, Mississippi State is now 22-4 with 4 walk-offs in all-black since 2018; the Sunday/Monday Blacks improved to 2-0 in 2021.
