As announced earlier in the week, the Bulldogs wore Patriots-inspired uniforms in their trip to Gillette Stadium to take on UMass. The special white uniform curse looked to be back at first; the Bulldogs trailed at halftime. However, they scored 34 second half points and managed to come out on top for their second win of the season.
The silver helmets looked pretty good; I could see them returning later this season. Silver-White-Gray would probably look best. I could see Silver-Maroon-Gray, too, but mostly likely I think is Silver-Black-Gray (or Silver-Black-Black) vs. Texas A&M. That'd be pretty sharp as far as black uniforms go.
The jerseys were different, but kinda similar to the Bulldogs' road uniforms from 2009-11 with all of the piping as well as the smaller banner wordmark on the chest. It sort of felt like we were watching another game from that era.
The pants are the first maroon pants we've worn this year. They aren't great, but better than the ones with the oversized M-State logo we wore last year. If we don't get any other new maroon pants this year, I could see these being worn again on Homecoming, when we usually go mono-maroon.
Overall, the Bulldogs really did look like the Patriots; it was less weird watching the game than I thought it would be. I suppose this is because I'm used to watching the Patriots play in those uniforms, so it really didn't seem as unfamiliar as new or alternate uniforms usually do.
The Bulldogs are off next week; they return with a home game vs Auburn on October 8th.
