After ditching the oversized M-State logo on the white pants, it was expected that the Bulldogs would debut new, oversized logo-less maroon pants sometime in 2016. They actually did wear maroon pants earlier this season at UMass with the rest of their Patriots-inspired uniforms . However, those were consistent with the Patriots' uniforms, not State's, so it was hoped that they would not be worn again. That will certainly be the case, as the Bulldogs debuted the maroon version of their gray and white striped pants in a loss today vs Auburn.
There was debate before the pants were unveiled as to what the striping pattern would be. Gray-white-gray made the most sense; it would follow the rule of darker color on the outside and lighter color on the inside. My favorite idea was to just leave the maroon pants a simple maroon and white, like the helmets, with no gray; this would prevent gray and white from touching and appearing mushed together. However, the striping pattern that ended up on the final product was white-gray-white. This was confusing at first, but it makes sense, kinda. By keeping two white stripes (with gray in-between), the stripes are somewhat consistent with the double white stripes on the maroon jersey. I'm guessing that this striping pattern will also be placed on the maroon jerseys (like it was on the white jerseys earlier this season) sometime in the near future (next season?), completing the changes that I called for this past off-season. Goodbye pants logo, and goodbye black outlines!
