This past off-season, I wrote this article giving my opinion on what changes needed to be made to the Bulldogs' uniforms. I subtitled that article "But Probably Won't [Happen]" and ended it with the following statement:
'Will any of these changes happen? Probably not. 2015 was the first year of what is generally a three year uniform cycle. These are all changes that really should have been made prior to last season. Still, it is disappointing to see that we are on the hinges of a great uniform, but because of a few bad decisions are stuck with a bit of a mess. There's always a chance that the people in charge will notice this and indeed make a change. "
Mr. Stricklin and the rest of the athletic department, I apologize for doubting you. You took that chance that I mentioned in that last sentence, and I want to thank you on behalf of the entire Mississippi State fanbase.
The Bulldogs' new white jerseys have maroon-gray-maroon stripes on the sleeves, matching the white pants introduced in the season opener vs. South Alabama and replacing the double maroon stripes with black outlines that were introduced in the 2014 Orange Bowl and worn throughout the 2015 season. The collar is solid maroon instead of black-maroon-black and the black outlines have been removed from the numbers. Overall, these are a HUGE improvement. Let's hope they're here to stay.
These jerseys probably would've been introduced in next week's game, but as discussed here, LSU wore gold throwback jerseys instead of their usual white at home, resulting in the Bulldogs wearing white against the Tigers for the first time since 2009 and the first time in Baton Rouge since 1994.
The Bulldogs wore the new white jerseys with the new white pants with matching stripes and the shiny maroon helmets. In my opinion, wearing the shiny helmets instead of matte brought the look down significantly. The mattes just look great on the road. However, I understand that the lateness of LSU's uniform change could have left the equipment with not enough time to prepare the matte helmets. I do expect to see either the matte helmets or white helmets in next week's game at UMass.
