It's hard to overstate just how important Saturday's 55-20 rout of Ole Miss was to Mississippi State's 2016 season and program as a whole. After a losing season that included losses to South Alabama, BYU, and Kentucky, the Bulldogs knocked the Rebels out of a bowl and, thanks to the over abundance of bowl games and a high APR, put themselves in one.
Another thing Saturday did was break a lot of long-standing records and feelings about the white helmets, special white uniforms, and Egg Bowl uniforms in general. As they did last season, the Bulldogs opted not to go with special gold-laden uniforms for the Egg Bowl and instead wear their alternate white helmets. This was the second time the Bulldogs had worn the white helmets this season, the first being when they wore the same all-white combo at Kentucky. With the updated white jerseys and pants, the Bulldogs' 2016 version of the stormtrooper look is really solid.
Prior to Saturday, the Bulldogs hadn't won an Egg Bowl in all-white since the flying M was on the helmets in 1970. They had since worn all-white in 1972, 2002, and 2004, all of which were losses. The 46 year drought was emphatically broken with Saturday's win.

White helmets in general don't have a good reputation among Mississippi State fans. After the switch was made to maroon helmets in 1973, the Bulldogs didn't wear white helmets again until they were reintroduced as alternates in the 2000 Independence Bowl. They continued to be worn as alternates in the 2001-2003 seasons before being made the primary (and only) helmets worn during the Sylvester Croom years (2004-2008), which were not successful to say the least. Reintroduced as alternates last season (and worn in last year's Egg Bowl loss), the white helmets have not been universally loved, mostly due to the association with the Croom years. In Egg Bowls this century, the Bulldogs were 2-6 in white helmets heading into Saturday. In addition to bumping that record to 3-6, I have a feeling that Saturday's victory will give many Mississippi State fans something positive to associate with the white helmets.

The jersey model for this week is #27 Aeris Williams, who Ole Miss absolutely could not stop. If you need proof, here's a tweet from @hailstateEQ of his jersey after the game.
You may remember last week that State tied the school record for uniform combos on the season at 10. By wearing the all-white combo again, they did not break that record this week. However, since it looks like the Bulldogs will indeed be bowling again this year, they will have a chance to break that record anyway. Combos that haven't been worn yet include White-Maroon-White, Silver-White-Gray, and Maroon-White-Gray. Also, with the Armed Forces Bowl as a possible landing spot, it would make sense to wear the black flag jerseys worn in the win over Texas A&M for that game. However, I believe that some of those jerseys have been auctioned off and/or given away. Not sure if there would be enough left to play another game in them.
