The Bulldogs wore their 9th combination of the year in a loss at Alabama earlier today, tying 2012 for the second most combinations the Bulldogs have worn in a season. Last season holds the record at 10; this year should tie that if the Bulldogs wear gray pants at Ole Miss, which they absolutely should. If they beat Arkansas and Ole Miss, a bowl game could potentially break the record with 11 combos on the season.
This was the third time this season the Bulldogs have worn maroon pants this year, and the second with this particular pair. Maroon pants were first worn with the Patriots-inspired uniforms at UMass. These pants, with white-gray-white stripes, were debuted at home against Auburn. This was the road debut of the striped maroon pants, and the second time that the shiny maroon helmet has been worn on the road this season.
I'm personally a fan of maroon pants as alternates, especially on the road; throw in a matte helmet and this look is fantastic. I thought a white helmet would've worked today also; the W-W-M combo is what the Bulldogs wore in an 06 win at Tuscaloosa. Going with the shiny maroon helmets is understandable though; M-W-M is a very solid combo in its own right. The Bulldogs previously wore the Shiny Maroon/White/Maroon variant of the ribbon stripes unis at Alabama in 2012.
This week's jersey model is #41 Mark McLaurin, who recovered a fumble today and has been playing really well defensively the past few games.
The Bulldogs host Arkansas next week and then travel to Ole Miss for the Egg Bowl to end the season. They need to win both in order to reach 6 wins and advance to a bowl game. I'd like to see gray pants in both, with M-M-G vs Arkansas and M-W-G vs Ole Miss (hopefully vs Powder Blue helmets). I think there's a good possibility of both coming to fruition; the Bulldogs have only worn the gray pants once this year, vs. South Carolina (a win, coincidentally); they're overdue for a couple of games in a row.
