Jersey- Maroon
Pants- Gray
For the last home game of the year, it was a pretty safe bet that the Bulldogs would wear maroon jerseys and gray pants, which had only been worn once this season in a win over South Carolina. Normally, the shiny maroon helmet is worn with this combination, but Senior Night and a chance for a unique combo, the Bulldogs went with the silver helmets for a bit of a surprise.
The silver helmets made their fourth appearance of the season; they debuted with the Patriots-inspired uniforms at UMass early in the season and were later worn at BYU with the regular all-whites and again at home with black alternates in a big win over #4 Texas A&M. With a 2-1 record, the silver helmets were tied for the most wins and had by far the best winning percentage of all the other helmets (Maroon at 2-4, White at 0-1). Even with the loss to Arkansas, the silver helmets retain the best winning percentage (2-2, .500) among the Bulldogs' three helmets in 2016.
The brand-new combo was the Bulldogs' tenth of the season, tying the 2015 school-record. With the Egg Bowl next week, the Bulldogs have a great opportunity to break the record, ideally with Maroon-White-Gray.
Overall, I thought Silver-Maroon-Gray was a solid alternate combo. A bit analogous to White-Maroon-White in the Egg Bowl last year. The fact that the maroon jersey contains no silver/gray created a problem with consistency of the uniform as a whole, but from a distance that didn't cause too big of a problem. Still, it is something that should be fixed if this combo is to be worn again in the future.
This week's jersey model is Senior Fred Ross, who is the primary jersey model for 2016 and really played well in his final game at Davis Wade Stadium.
