The silver helmets made their anticipated return as the Bulldogs traveled out to Provo, Utah to take on BYU on a 9:15 Friday Night kickoff. The best part, and only part to be used again, of the patriots-inspired uniforms, the silver helmets actually go pretty well with the gray stripes on the white jersey and pants.
BYU announced earlier this week that they would be wearing Royal for their homecoming week. This was great news for the uniform matchup, as BYU's royal uniforms are almost universally considered superior to their regular navy. My hope after that announcement was that the Bulldogs would wear Matte/White/Gray, which was voted to be their best combo last year when they wore it against Arkansas. That look would be even better this season with the Bulldogs' updated white jerseys, and would be a great contrasting matchup against BYU's White/Royal/White.
However, the Bulldogs went with the Silver/White/White, which is a really solid look in a vacuum, but didn't quite provide enough contrast with BYU's white helmet in pants. Overall though, this was a very solid uniform matchup, and maybe the most consistent uniform the Bulldogs have worn in years.
