In this year's SEC West All-Maroon, All-Adidas matchup, Mississippi State's defense continued to look strong but its offense continued to struggle, and as a result Texas A&M claimed its first victory in Starkville in 8 years.
After wearing white pants in the first three games of the 2020 season, Mississippi State switched it up this weekend, going with the maroon pants to create an all-maroon look with the maroon jerseys and the traditional, gloss-finished maroon helmets. The third combination of the season, this was the first time that Mississippi State had worn GlossMaroon/Maroon/Maroon with the primary uniforms of the current set. Although as an alternate look, that was technically the combination in the Egg Bowl last season.
The last time State wore GlossMaroon/Maroon/Maroon in a non-alternate uniform was in 2016, when they did so twice: a home loss to Auburn and a win in the St. Petersburg Bowl. That look had a white "M" on the helmet, inconsistent jersey stripes, and thicker pants stripes, so this year's was a significant improvement. This wasn't the first time we'd seen this jersey/pants combination; Mississippi State did wear maroon helmets and pants together three times over the last two seasons, twice with matte maroon helmets (vs Texas A&M in 2018 and Alabama in 2019) and once with white helmets (vs LSU in 2019).
Texas A&M has a brand new uniform set this year, a simplified look with no shoulder stripes and a return to gloss-finished maroon helmets with white facemask. I really like this look for the Aggies; even though I did like the shoulder stripes they'd worn since 2012, this is a cleaner look for them and one that I can get behind. Saturday marked the first time that the Aggies had worn gloss-finished maroon helmets against Mississippi State since 2000, and the first time that the Aggies had worn Maroon/White/White in Starkville since joining the SEC.
Mississippi State and Texas A&M have had quite the turbulent uniform matchup history over the years, often wearing alternate uniforms against each other to create contrast. The two teams have never repeated a uniform matchup; this was actually the first time that a color matchup had been repeated, albeit with the teams reversed (the 2017 matchup in College Station was also Maroon/Maroon/Maroon vs Maroon/White/White). The helmet matchup truly looked like a scrimmage this year, with both teams wearing gloss-finished maroon helmets with white facemasks and no center stripe; the last two matchups (2018, 2019) had actually seen both teams in matte maroon helmets with gray facemasks.

Mississippi State has an off-week coming up, followed by a trip to Tuscaloosa on Halloween Night. The Bulldogs should be back in their road white jerseys for that game; as usual the combination could be any number of things, from All-White to Maroon/White/Maroon or Maroon/White/Gray.
My preseason prediction was Matte/White/White, but since we've already done the Maroon/White/White color combination at Kentucky, I'll shift to Maroon/White/Maroon. No combination would really surprise me though; we could even break out White/White/Maroon as a call back to 2006. We'll find out in two weeks.
