Even though updates to the maroon MS jerseys had been announced back in January, as of last week they had not been worn yet and I was starting to wonder if they would see the field at all in 2018. Paired with the white pinstripe pants, they did indeed see the field for the first time this season in a Tuesday Night win over Alcorn State. After seeing them on the field for the first time, my opinion on the changes made to the MS jerseys is pretty much the same as when they were revealed: button down is an improvement, but moving the Adidas logo to above the (slightly smaller) M over S logo makes this a clear downgrade from last season. So, not a bad look, but I'm very happy that the 85 jerseys are the primary maroon look for 2018.
On Wednesday, the Bulldogs had initially planned to wear their all black look for the second time this season. However, Texas Southern brought its own all black combination, forcing the Bulldogs to change into the white "State" pinstripes, which most would agree is a far superior look. So thanks, Texas Southern.
For the weekend series, the Bulldogs traveled to Columbia, Missouri to take on the Tigers in a SEC road series. On Friday, the Bulldogs wore the Maroon 85 jerseys with white pants, just as they have every Friday this season. On Saturday, they wore the gray pinstripes for the first time in nearly three weeks. The gray pins came through for the Bulldogs' first SEC win of the year, a 3-1 victory in 15 innings.
On Sunday, the Bulldogs debuted a new combination, one of my favorites of the season: maroon 85 jersey with white pinstripe pants. I've always been a fan of this look, dating back to when we won a College World Series game over Indiana in it back in 2013. Along with maroon MS over white pins, which as mentioned earlier was debuted on Tuesday, this combination brings the Bulldogs to 8 on the year, which is two more than the 6 worn last year, but still one shy of the 9 worn in 2016.
